My view is every last word of this is whistling past the graveyard on what’s going on in academia. In 1984, black only graduation ceremonies would have been an abomination. Now, it’s quite common. That’s a clear symptom of what people refer to as “wokeness”, as are race only safe spaces, or a speaker invited by a campus organization who winds up shouted down at best, or even feeling threatened.

You keep falling back to “I don’t see pro-Palestinian protests as pro-Hamas”. Well, you’re willfully blind if you haven’t seen the Hamas tropes amplified at protests, sometimes just placards, and other times projected onto facades. It’s not Israel that fails to make this distinction between Hamas and the Palestinian people, who are Hamas’ chief victim.

Lastly, I haven’t read every post but I haven’t seen the 3 U presidents accused of being anti-semites. But everyone saw them equivocate on an answer to an easy hypothetical about direct calls for Jewish genocide, claiming a level of commitment to free speech on their campuses which DOES NOT EXIST. More often, speech = violence carries the day. That’s the problem, and why UPenn is scrambling today. Because everyone not trying desperately to keep this “post-modernism” emphasis in academia hidden sees it clear as day.

Call it “post modernism” if you don’t like wokeness. But it’s getting a bit late in the game to keep denying it.
