much leeway for a speaker in a forum as there is for a student protest. You don't have to invite the speaker, but if someone does to some forum they are hosting, it shouldn't be shut down because the speaker has vile, awful views.

I do think the situation administrators have found themselves in is almost completely of their own making. There has been way too much effort to prevent students from saying "offensive" things - at least to certain groups. The administrators have allowed or even encouraged speech codes on campus which have encourage "victim" individuals or groups get people punished, dis-invited and otherwise have their speech chilled.

Now they are seeing this come for them with two opposed "victim" groups. They are getting demands from each to group punish the other - as they have punished / chilled other speech in the recent past. If they were self-reflective enough, in congress they would have apologized for the inappropriate speech chilling environment they previously created and say, moving forward, we will not be punishing speech unless it actually falls into these extremely narrow categories of true threat, incitement, etc.
