No cash bail is not the issue here. If the judge had set bail at some cash amount and this kid managed to post bail, would anyone feel any safer with this murder suspect on the street because he came up with the cash to be released? If your answer is, "well, he wouldn't have been able to come up with the cash, so he wouldn't be released"... then fine, if the goal is to not let him out on bail because he poses a threat to the public, then don't release him. Don't use cash bail as some proxy to hold people who are a threat to others.... but only if they're poor.

Based on the circumstances as reported, I don't think someone like this should be granted bail... period. But that doesn't make the idea of no cash bail a bad idea. People should be either kept in jail while they await trial based on being a threat to society, or they should be released. But one's ability to pay shouldn't really factor in IMO. Now once someone doesn't show up for a court date... cash bail all you want. You've lost the right to be released on no cash bail if you don't show.
