Our second amendment. Our higher presence of guns. Our different attitudes
toward gun ownership, freedom, and our right to protect ourselves. Our memorializing these POS so the next one thinks they too can go out in a blaze of infamy. Our possibly worse handling of mental health issues ("possibly" only because I'm unfamiliar with how well other countries address this). All of those seem to factor in.
You're welcome to try and pass an amendment overturning the 2nd, I'm not sure I've ever seen an effort to do that. You're welcome to try and pass laws to confiscate guns to reduce their presence (which is what most gun grabbers want, but aren't even willing to say, let alone propose legislation to do so, or be willing to imprison violators regardless of outcomes). You're welcome to work to change our country's attitudes about gun ownership and freedom, or push for better efforts to protect our people so they don't feel as much need to protect themselves. And you're welcome to work to better address mental health issues (we absolutely should), rather than just dismissing that reality as a "talking point" or "deflection".
I would suggest we start with the low hanging fruit. Much more seriously prosecute and imprison those found illegally possessing a gun, and certainly those using a gun in a crime. Go after the "nuts" part of gun nuts with better treatment, prevention of them owning guns, and confiscation of guns from them.
Going after legal gun owners that are mostly just looking to be able to defend themselves, while actually making them more at the mercy of those that don't care about your gun laws, not only seems wrong, but actually puts folks more in danger.
