Funny how this isn't viewed this way in Europe
Just stayed a week with a Belgian friend who lives outside Antwerp, had a full week of touring different Belgian cities, discussing Belgian history, current politics, how their government runs, how they support their citizens, he's lived in several other EU countries and it's much the same in those. They pay about 50% in taxes, but they have full medical/dental coverage, no copays, medication copays are quite low and my friend is on the same drugs we prescribe here to patients. They have virtually NO homeless. The only few are there because of significant drug or mental health issues. Those that are low income have access to social housing. They have many clean, modern taller residential towers for these, and they are intermixed with those that aren't social housing. This is even offered to all of the Syrian and African refugees that have showed up in their country. They help get them on their feet and started on a new life. Their highways are clean and well maintained. They have very few of the issues that continue to plague this country. Really none of them complain at all about free government giveaways as you like to call them. They all just scratch their heads when they read the headlines from America about what we deal with, especially the gun culture. It's foreign to them for sure.
