Read an article today that the rest of the world is fretting over becoming

collateral damage in the escalating China/US trade war. With Trump, the best hope is that he will flip on a dime under the right circumstances - such as a sustained market decline like the end of last year, or even worse, real time evidence of a slowing economy. I think he would probably react, but the negative is that he lives in a tariff fantasy world, where American consumers pay nothing, and the US economy only gets a boost. Which suggests that it is possible that Trump will dig in his heels, and willingly take the global economy down with him, while refusing to even recognize the reality of it. Hard to predict with this guy.

We're a long way from that happening, but it occurs to me that we should consider ourselves fortunate if that only happens economically. The world would recover from that. He also lives in his own little fantasy world of bromances with dictators and authoritarians who share his zeal for eliminating democratic institutions, globally and at home. If he gets four more years, I think the world could be fretting about becoming collateral damage in something far more ominous than a trade war. Something more like real wars.

We should be in firm, staunch alliances with our European partners, Japan, Canada and Mexico in our economic dispute with China. We should be in TPP. Because of Trump's populist nationalism, we're not. We're forcing these allies to increasingly look at us like they look at China and Russia - as a potential danger. It really is urgent that we rid the world of this nationalist menace. We can only do our part by ridding the world of the Trump Admin, and hopefully moving to re-assume our leadership role in constructing the worldwide structures that helped create unprecedented peace and prosperity for much of the world for decades following WW II.
