Use of the socialist label is the left's version of populism.

It's not real. There are no American socialist pols. Not the Bern, not AOC, not Warren. But they use the label to inflame passions - positive and negative. I think the very concept of socialism as an economic framework turns off many, many Americans - not falling neatly along age demarcations, IMO anyway. It plays into the feamongerers hands.

I certainly don't want to be choosing between populist self described socialist and populist nationalist, that's for sure, so that impacts my viewpoint. Still, I strongly believe the best counter to Trump is non-extremist, non-populist, which means to me, non-socialist. I think a self described socialist pits populist vs populist, and that's a contest I hope not to see.
