If K-12 education was "single payer" where you submitted for reimbursement and the standard single payer reimbursement rate for K-12 education was say $8K, I don't think the single payer education system should say we will only reimburse you if you go to a school that accepts the $8K and requires nothing more.

I have a friend that has a concierge practice. Being in south Florida, the VAST majority of his patients are on medicare. He says the medicare reimbursement rates basically pay their bills and keep the lights on. The annual fee they charge pays his and his partners' salaries. Now the reason the medicare reimbursement rates only cover their expenses is not because they're inefficient, it's because they limit the number of patients such that when you need to see a doctor, they can get you in immediately. And when you see the doctor, you see the DOCTOR, not a PA or NP. And they spend time with their patients. And people are willing to pay for that benefit. If he were to make a living off of medicare reimbursement only, he'd need to quadruple his patient load and his service level and response times would go way down.

I don't know why medicare for all shouldn't work the same as medicare does now. I think that model is actually a pretty good one and would keep the most people happy with what they already have while also providing a more efficient system for the masses.
