The knock against public health care has always been lack of free choice and that it would completely wreck the health care system in any country, by creating an inferior monopolistic public system, and then making it anti-competitive for any private practice to survive. This is not a new argument, it’s been put out there as long as I can remember.

This is how I believe the mocking of Rand is roundly justified as clearly universal health care has not destroyed the Canadian health care system as he and others have argued now for decades.

Now to the original point that you made in your original post which got me to respond, were there people who thought he was going to use Canadian public health care and mocked him for that? Probably, and I agree those folks were silly as that wouldn’t be legal anyway and this would’ve been a much bigger deal.

However there’s a much deeper hypocrisy here on Rand’s part and I imagine most of his critics on his Canadian visit recognize this. Perhaps I’m giving them too much credit, but I don’t think so.
