Care that has been made over and over by those opposed like Rand is twofold:

You want universal health care in the US? Why? Look at the other countries like Canada, Denmark, UK, etc!

1. Their health care system sucks. Long waiting times, people die waiting for treatment bureaucrats are in charge of life or death. Nobody wants that!

So then the counter argument is made by those in support:

look, we don’t think the healthcare system in those countries is nearly as bad as you claim, but ok, if you’re not happy with the public healthcare for whatever reason, then those with the money have the Freedom to just pay and go to a private practice for care.

At that point the argument from opponents is:

2. When you install universal health care, it’s virtually impossible for private practice to compete with the publics on price, and then the red tape of keeping up with the onerous healthcare regulations the bureaucracy will install, so those private guys will all crumble and leave us with only the shitty Public option!

This is why Rand is being mocked. He has been on the “Universal Health Care will be the destruction of health care system in the US, just as it is in Canada!” train, so it’s quite ridiculous that he is now seeking treatment in the country where the system is supposed to be way worse than ours, both public and private according to the logic of their argument.
