My mortgage lender does not have permission to share my SS# though.
I think you are mixing privacy and security. For the most part, I won't give my SS# to a doctor's office, which has been a cause of some debate during some visits. I'm not worried the doc will willingly share it, but I don't trust the focus on cybersecurity. With my bank, I know there is no such thing as hack-proof, but I trust their focus much more.
Cybersecurity concerns are here to stay and they are insoluble IMO. If you have kids, direct them to cybersecurity, because I think that will be an arms race with no end, and good security pros will be worth their weight in gold. Privacy OTOH? Do I worry about my phone location services being on? Or that my mic might pick up things I did not mean to be "overheard"? When its just commercial I have trouble seeing the harm.
In other words, if I were an active Facebook user, I would have absolutely no hesitation about them knowing things like my googling history, or who I'm friends with, or stuff like that. And I wouldn't feel a need to stay on top of where they send it. In short - security, huge concern. Privacy? I think we sometimes lurch to being creeped out by anything big brothery, but on second look, often not much there. [Post edited by hoolstoptheheels at 01/03/2019 2:16PM]
