How do we get around it? I have no hands on experience with these issues
as you're describing, beyond making sure my firm complies with GDPR at least for EU investors. I don't understand all the consternation over some of the commercial stuff. I am so used to ignoring digital advertising, why do I care if my phone signals I just walked by a sporting goods shop and suddenly I get Spalding ads? Or even if my phone hears me talk about something and causes me to get an ad?
Govt can misuse of this technology to monitor and try to control me - that bothers me. Somebody trying to sell me something does not. Outbound sales efforts are wasted on me. They never have and I think never will drive my behavior. I guess it sucks that things like this can be used to polarize us more. And certainly, there are bad actors in the private sector, but if I am careful about my sensitive personal data like SS #'s, what harm can they do me? Target bullshit political stuff?
I think these are facts of life in today's world. People love social media services. And they use it for free. Yet not free - your data is the price of admission. Otherwise, I think people have to be willing to part with actual dollars and cents to use these services. Which I doubt will be sustainable. I suspect you have an angle on this I am not seeing.
