But it does point to the dangers of Trump's nationalism. We leave voids that someone else will fill. And China is only too happy to do that - even if I'm right that China's growth to date and future prospects are overstated (no guarantees), its totalitarian regime can keep things going for a long, long time. Think Soviet Union - I think we now know that it had long since become unsustainable by the time it collapsed - we Americans were just the last to know.

I do have doubts about China long term, but I think we should be working to isolate China instead of driving would be allies into China's arms, potentially helping them to isolate us.
