Right - definitely. I didn't really mean that the US has the sole burden -


Not the best wording there. I should have said something like the burden shouldn't primarily fall to one country, or even some small group of countries. I was intending that comment to be more theoretical, rather than referring to an actual situation right now.

As for the rest, I'm a big believer in the whole rising tide raises all ships approach. I'm the first to admit though that the problem is a very complex one. Intervention in other parts of the world, though well-intentioned, can be fraught with a ton of variables that are difficult to control, and it can be dangerous from a foreign policy perspective, IMO, to go in thinking we can control all of those variables. At the end of the day, I believe that the more the US *in combination with our allies* and other world partners can effectively intervene to improve another nation's conditions and/or render assistance to those who are desperately in need of it, goes a long way to creating a better world for ALL.
