Hmm. I don't really agree

Maybe there was some of that. I think it started with a grand vision of dem-repub cooperation, with dems taking the lead of course. I even remember this big bipartisan luncheon with O at the head of this big rectangular table. I think he felt that mythical first 100 day pressure and the looming mid terms, which cost congressman sooner than it seems these days. I think they are always on the campaign trail, give or take.

So I think it was mostly political. I think things like the stimulus, auto bailouts, unemployment, were more about the crisis. But I don't mean to go to the mat over his motives. I just think the reality is that his approach itself, whatever the motive, increased the odds that this part of his legacy would be in such danger.
