I think it is too late in the near term. The thing is, I'm concerned that
other European countries may ditch the EU also. Now I can see some argument for some, PIIGS for example, moving back to their own currencies. These countries have not fully recovered from the debt crisis because their monetary policies are controlled by Germany and France. However, I can't see the logic in getting rid of the trade and political union such as it is. Recall for a moment the EU was formed in the first place; in the 20th century there were about 100 million war casualties that made it an imperative. Reform it, make it more accountable, but don't splinter it. The world cannot afford to have a warring Europe.
On a more pessimistic note though, I think we are going to see more populations displaced from places like the Middle East as climate changes. This is driving a lot of the instability now, and our failures to deal with this globally are going to result in some serious chaos.
