If there was ever an issue suitable for a national referendum, this was it.

Even though I would have likely voted Remain, the notion that working class people are too stupid to be allowed to vote on the issue strikes me as repugnant, and worrisome.

Here and in the UK we have decided that our national values require that the vote of an uneducated blue collar laborer in an industrial town is of equal value to that of someone in with a Ph.D in the House of Lords. Maybe that system doesn't always result in the objectively "best" results, but that is a cost of democratic government and (for most of us at least) preferable to oligarchy.
