A fair and balanced look from a Fox News site.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A new jobs report for Kansas City shows over the past year, businesses on the Missouri side hired a lot more people than businesses on the Kansas side.
The report is more bad news for Kansas lawmakers, who four years ago passed massive tax cuts arguing it would attract businesses and jobs to move to the Sunflower State.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, from February of 2015 to February of 2016, the metro area gained more than 16,000 jobs. The Missouri side of the metro gained six times as many jobs as the Kansas side β 13,900 new jobs compared to 2,200 new jobs.
Ever since Kansas Governor Sam Brownback and the legislature cut income taxes four years ago, Kansas has struggled to bring in enough revenue to pay the bills.
Lawmakers have made massive cuts to many state agencies; the State Supreme Court determined the state was not properly financing schools; and lawmakers have raised the state sales tax to try and balance the budget. And yet despite offering financial incentives for businesses to move to Kansas, the statistics show businesses are instead choosing to move to the Missouri side of the metro.
Kansas City lawmakers are also offering incentives to lure businesses to build on their side of the metro, but itβs not putting the city β or the state β in a financial crunch like it is in Kansas.
