Who's creating the bogeyman? Those protesting all these federal edicts,

or those who are issuing the edicts in the first place?

I think your statement isn't reasonable - if I have a problem with the feds taking an expansive interpretation of the Civil Rights Act and imposing a view point on the states, I am expressing prejudice towards trans folks; if I have a problem with the feds effectively bullying all public schools nationwide into adopting a certain stance about trans people using bathrooms and locker rooms, again, I am expressing prejudice. Now, the same thing about insurance mandates.

I know Boca well enough to believe with a very high degree of confidence that this is not about prejudice.

Because all these issues have direct consequences to non-trans people - school age children who need to use the same facilities, or people sharing in the expense of sex change operations because that's how insurance functions - non-trans people should be able to voice opinions without fear of knee jerk reactions calling them bigots.

I don't believe I'm a bigot. I have always believed that sex change operations are misnamed, because you simply can't turn a physically male body into a physically female body (or vice versa). IMO, that is science at least as fundamentally basic as climate change or evolution - two areas where the left tends to browbeat the right (correctly IMO) for ignoring science. All we can do is take drugs and perform what amounts to physical mutilations to make a body appear to be the opposite sex from its birth gender.

That said, if it makes a trans person feel better and more comfortable, by all means, not for me to tell you what to do. But just as I feel about the rule passed by the CA dept of corrections saying the state will pay for inmate sex change operations, I don't think anyone should get to demand that I or you pay for it. My initial thinking on the insurance question is similar.

Fair game to discuss whether a sex change is elective like a nose job (but I promise that there are plenty of people who would claim a nose job is just as important to their psyche, so disturbing is their nose to them, as a sex change is to trans folks), but we should be able to discuss it without accusing those on the skeptical side of being bigots. That's just being closed minded and shutting the argument down. It's bullying. It's the same general concept of political correctness run amok that has the Chis Rocks of the world saying they can't play college campuses anymore.

This is not the gay marriage issue, where any objections just amount to a group telling people who are not doing anything at all to them how to live their lives. With these transgender questions, everyone is effected.

And it seems to me that the problems really cropped up when politicians decided to politicize them.
