Do you really believe Tommy Boy obsesses about this issue because he's a

Stickler for technical immigration law or do you just feel compelled to stick up for him for some reason?

It's very clear what his issue is. He doesn't like Hispanics moving here and thinks they are, at least in large part, criminals and leeches.

You'll never see him talk about non-immigrant recidivists of gun violence, drunk driving, or anything else. It's always to cherry pick people who were arrested for immigration violations and let go and then did something else. Why is that?

It would be painfully obvious if you took the blinders off. And yes -- people thinking like that and propagating this crap that DOES affect law abiding even domestically born Hispanics. Just like everyone calling Italians "wops" and assuming mob ties probably did to your family. Also would not immigration was much different back then but plenty of people came here through unofficial channels then too.
