I've yet to see Maize engage in anything remotely resembling a "civil conversation" with someone he disagrees with. He's among the most caustic and combative posters here. That's coming from me (yes, I lay on the snark and will be the first to admit it but most of the time it's all TIC).

Doesn't help that his usual rants are belittling gays or transgender people, launching into SDH for making a joke about the Danes and saying the Danes are all racists, the usual horrible alarm-bell-sounding rhetoric about guns, etc.

Maybe he's better on the sports boards, but no. If you want to go with reasonable and thoughtful conservatives, try Boca, Hool, Joey, etc.. You won't see me engaging in uncivil discourse with any of them (you either, if I recall).
