One other thought (after reading the article): not every state


has an SREC program - Virginia does not. Anyone who buys 8 years worth up front, is doing so at a deep discount to current SREC prices, because there is no guaranteed SREC value, other than what you can sell current production for today.

The projects I have financed generally have 45-60% of the cost repaid from tax credits, SREC sales (in SREC states) , and state grants (in states that have grants) in the first 2-3 years of the project. The rest of the cost is recovered from latter year SREC sales, and primarily from sale of power (or power savings). If the tax benefits can be fully used , generally a project can pay for itself in 10 years.
