I have financed about 20 commercial solar

panel installations. Cost per kwh runs $2-3. Ground mounted arrays tend to run on the lower end, roof mounted closer to the higher end. There is some economy of scale so smaller projects tend to cost a little more per KWH. That number is exclusive of any cost to lease or buy the property itself.

The economics of solar still depend to a degree on the ability to take the tax benefits - 30% ITC and accelerated depreciation. You'd likely want to create an LLC of the home owners.

I think you are in Virginia and I think Dominion Power generally would have to agree to this installation because you would need to hook into their power grid. Most of the deals I have done have been outside of Virginia as neighboring states are far more solar friendly. If you are interested, there is a company out of Annapolis you should talk to, New Energy Equity, LLC. Ask for Matt.
