My point was, which you apparently missed in your constant quibbling, is that judging people who lived in a different time, by our standards today is ignorant.

One would think, someone so against slavery could have convinced his wife to part with them. Reconstruction under Grant was notoriously corrupt and did not exactly treat the newly freed african population all that well, I am not sure why you would willingly bring that up.
