Germany and my mom born here. I don't recall the details but yes, Germany is more strict than Italy.

I wish I knew more about my grandmother's life. I know she emigrated by herself as a 17 year old in 1927. My mom's mother, aunts, uncles, cousins spent WWII living in Germany. My mother was an 8 year old and vividly recalls being in Germany visiting relatives in the summer of 1939 and trying to get out. They were able to get onto a ship three days before Germany invaded Poland. I wish I had wanted to know more of their story while they were still alive. Even my mom doesn't know it. Like a lot of people I think they wouldn't talk much about it.
