It's more nuanced than that
This case is also about the convergence between old and new media.
Ted Kaczynski's manifesto was published at the behest of the FBI. Today, would they even ask publishers about that, or would they just put it on their own website? The role of government suggestions has changed because the media is not the monolith it once was.
It all goes back to the question of whether social media companies are publishers or platforms. Elon and Zuck want to be platforms so they don't have any responsibility for content, but that weakens the censorship argument.
If social media were considered a "record" of things like newspapers once were, I'm betting we wouldn't see nearly this level of pushback to correcting things, even if the government was the one who brought the mistake to light. With the amount of influence social media has now, perhaps it's time to start treating it more like a system of record in some ways. People need to reckon with the responsibilities inherent to broadcasting your opinions to the world.
