Yeah, I just don’t buy that the half of all Gazans (or so) who had nothing
To do with Hamas coming to power in ‘06 are advocating genocide. They’re advocating an end to their own misery. Which they personally didn’t create. When it comes to western protestors, I’m in lock step with you. When folks particularly on the left fail to call out those protests, for not just failing to call out Hamas as primary oppressors of innocent Palestinians (and being the chief impediment to peace in the ‘90s), but in some cases actually supporting Hamas by parroting their genocidal slogans, they repeat the “good people on both sides” Trumpie reaction to CVille in ‘17, to which they all objected so strenuously.
I don’t think seeing Palestinians who are not part of Islamic jihad or Hamas as innocent, even if they see those groups as “freedom fighters”, is throwing cover to genocide. I see that as kind of inevitable when you live in such squalor and hopelessness. Can either of us really claim we’d be different if we’d been born in Gaza 15 yrs ago? We might be wrong, and victims of our own limited worldview, but does that mean we’re “bad”, or “human”? [Post edited by hoolstoptheheels at 11/28/2023 11:16AM]
