At this point, we have enough experience with the foibles of polling
To always take it with a grain of salt. Besides, if you’re a 21 or under Palestinian who feels completely hopeless, and played no part in that atrocity, you still might be sympathetic to the folks you think struck the source of your hopelessness. I have no patience at all for Americans celebrating barbarity like that, and not too much for Palestinians, but in the latter case, I get there’s a perspective I can’t really personally experience.
As others have pointed out, many in Gaza are too young to have voted for Hamas, and are products of their own experiences. I don’t think we condemn people to death for simply supporting the wrong side. Doesn’t mean I agree with condemning Israel for every innocent Palestinian death either. Israel has a right to defend itself against terrorists hiding behind innocents.
Just that flame throwers posting one liners like ryno are such a big part of the problem. Paradoxical things are true at the same time. Israel has a right to respond. Every innocent Palestinian death because Hamas helped put them in danger (because they’ll fight Israel to the last Palestinian) is a tragedy, and helps Hamas far more than Israel. Both those things are true at the same time.
The truest thing in Laz’s post - Israel has a dilemma. I am not a bibi supporter, but I am a strong supporter of Israel. And I strongly believe Israel is in a minefield, with no clear path out. Hamas does kind of win if Israel stops here. But then again, Israel kind of loses if they don’t. And hovering over it all is a PM who might be motivated to delay his own day of reckoning more than anything else. Which probably doesn’t produce the best result for Israel.
