It is a confounding emotion to me.
Here we have a country that is surrounded by either enemies or very strangely behaving neighbors. And it's a country that a displaced people were put in that were persecuted worse than anyone in history, save for maybe American Indians.
But nobody seems to give a shit. They say things like, well, they should know better than anyone about badly treating people. And yeah, sure, I get that. They certainly are not innocent. But if I was on war footing every day of my existence, I might not be very tolerant. I think it's absurd for people who don't live there to judge them.
I also think it's absurd not to have some sympathy for normal Palestinians. The problem is, who are the normal ones? Who are the peace loving ones? If it was cut and dried, why do no middle eastern countries help them? Why do all of them have rules about them coming across their border? All of them, not just Israel.
Israel has every right to defend itself and when attacked, to have a response and invasion, if needed. Collateral damage happens in war. It's sad but true. Nobody really wins. However, if Israel does not retaliate hard into the paint, it will only embolden the scum who want to destroy it. This is all the belligerents understand. As it has been forever.
