Trust between cops and the communities they police, because we tend to view such stories as being representative of all cops everywhere in the country. The only cops guilty of those text messages are the ones who sent them.
That’s part of this problem - all cops are not the worst publicized examples of bad cops. Ultimately, it’s a very positive thing that such examples are exposed, but it’s a negative if we over-extrapolate those examples.
