I turned 16 in 1970 and I feel like I missed most of the good parts
In fact I probably would fall into that non-progressive population back then. I voted for Nixon in my first presidential election.
The war was a huge driver but keep in mind my generations parents lived through World War II and mandatory military service. Our grandparents lived through World War I. And so on. Why did our generation become the first Generation to say war? Huh! I don’t think so. What the hell is it good for?
Part of it was how we were raised, struggle free compared to previous generations, and part of it was how much of the world we could see and part of it was our share numbers so that even if the generation was split between progressives and mom’s, there were a lot of progressives.
