Cash is a face-to-face transaction, which is likely a minority of what happens on Venmo. And cybercurrency isn't actually used much for paying for anything. Surely that may change, but it's going to be a while before that filters down to the hoi polloi.

I'm pretty certain that most juice is worth the squeeze when it comes to the IRS budget. Or, at least, there's so much juice being lost that we're a long way from the point where ROI becomes an issue.

If the law says report at $600 and Venmo was basically operating on an exception, then I would consider it corporate malpractice if they didn't already have a plan put together for the day that exception went away.
