Different light from the original narrative "Russia put bounties on
US troops, Trump knew and endangered them by doing nothing" he repeats here. The intelligence was not corroborated in a way military leaders thought merited forceful response, commanders and diplomats were the appropriate people to handle it, they did and are continuing to do so. Pompeo discussed it with Lavrov, warned him what would happen if it were hypothetically true. Basically, the issue is being responded to appropriately.

Also, Trump's rhetoric is soft toward Putin, too soft, but he hasn't gotten anything close to a pass the last four years. We're sanctioning the shit out of them and positioning troops closer to Moscow, the risk of conflict is increasing. A lot of experienced Russia foreign policy think we need to de-escalate in ways that might be characterized as being 'softer', whoever the next president is actually. The right criticism of Trump's foreign policy is it's incoherent and haphazard, not that we're doing Putin's bidding somehow because that's not what's happening.
