Words = action when they come from the Oval Office.
Trumpies get all worked up over words when spoken by freshmen congressional Muslim women.
There's no either/or here. I am not aware of too many people who defend the Cville police dept's performance on that August day.
Trump's words welcomed the KKK and neo nazi forces driving that day into the mainstream of our political society. Or maybe worse, his embrace of the alt-right so much he hired its leader to run his campaign and become one of his closest advisers, had already brought them into the mainstream, and his words of encouragement as people probed and pressed for an unequivocal denunciation of their hateful philosophy Just confirmed it. It brought applause from people who previously stayed very much on the fringes (David Duke is the best example). So when people talk about that empowerment and the rise in white supremacist activities and deadly attacks, very much challenging extreme Islam as the greatest terrorist threat in this country, that's what they're referring to. Trump's words are "action". Giving speeches is one of their most influential actions.
Your concern is about a local police matter, and they are not mutually exclusive.
