I would rather you be right about China, all things considered.
I would sum up my skepticism as follows: China wants to have a free market economy - at least up to a point - they want to interfere with that in very extreme ways that would be unimaginable to us as they deem necessary - but maintain complete authoritarian rule everywhere else. But societies don't work that way. All aspects are interrelated, and there is a reason why China by and large fails to innovate. Almost at all. They rely on espionage. Obviously this is not a failing of Chinese people. Without freedom, there is no innovation.
I think China at best has a ceiling on how much it can advance, and at worst will collapse violently, unless a true statesman arises to release the grip of one party authoritarian rule.
