about the big picture here. I'm no expert, but as I understand it, the Romans scattered the Jews across Europe and parts of Asia beginning in the 1st Century AD after multiple, violent Jewish rebellions. In any reasonable sense of the word, Israel then no longer existed as a nation. Only in the late 1800s did Jews begin migrating back to Palestine in any numbers. Then in 1948, the UK, a colonial power which by then controlled Palestine, together with the UN, decided to divvy up Palestine so as to give the Jews their own independent state there. So the Arabs had been living in the region for close to 2,000 years with only scattered pockets of Jews, but suddenly 700,000 Arab Palestinians were uprooted and homeless at the whim of foreign powers acting on behalf of Jewish Zionists. Now in what part of this story are the Palestinian people as a whole - the great majority of them that are not terrorists - guilty of anything? Why are they deserving of such hostility? Why is advocating for their rights "apologist" and why should they all be painted with the same terrorism "brush"? Why do they deserve to be stateless? As a people, they've been wronged. I urge you to read Roger Waters' linked article from Salon for an understanding of where he's actually coming from, rather than reviling him for being something which he clearly is NOT - an apologist for terrorists.
