These are political issues now, where for a period they weren't
That issues like foreign involvement in various conflicts and immigration were kind of cut out of the political debate created the window for Trump and populist figures more generally to seize on them and gather steam. I'm for aid to Ukraine, not as part of a broader plan to topple Putin (folly imo), but because it's in our security interest once they invaded that they're stopped at least along the lines of where it is now. Politicians can't default to "Jamie Dimon says this" or "you're a Putinist", there will be disagreement and that attitude makes it worse imo, there has to be sufficient political support earned. Maybe it's too complicated and difficult to do that cleanly now, too emotionally reactive to past mistakes, too difficult to have a fully informed public about, but it's how we're set up.
