You mean if you can’t get every single thing you want, no deal.
Formerly respected serious conservative senator Lankford negotiated a massively improved border deal - the best in decades and a chance which will almost certainly not come around again for many more decades - which the GOP rejected under orders from its cult leader. It wasn’t HR 2 - it wasn’t everything repubs wanted. Because repubs don’t control the govt. It was a compromise that dealt with tightening asylum rules and setting limits that would have automatically stopped all border crossings when they hit the levels per day that had republican heads spinning. So it was a massive improvement which would not have precluded repubs looking for more stringent reforms if they won elections giving them momentum, but instead they torpedoed it and all but eliminated the chances of any reform at all for another 4 decades.
These reforms would have had full force of law and would not have caused court challenges to exec actions, as trump will now face if he wins in Nov. He’ll win some and lose some, but the last reform deal with the force of law will continue to be 1986.
So you can save your bullshit for the cult meetings, slick. Facts are facts in the really real world. Aid passed the senate overwhelmingly after the gop bowed to Trump on the border compromise, banishing Lankford to the outer reaches of Trumpistan. It ultimately passed the house without any border measures. Basically the same deal they could have taken up immediately upon passage by the senate, but that would have prevented Putin’s winter gains.
The final result proves you are full of shit in the real world. The repubs passed aid while pursuing election year chaos at the border. They proved they didn’t condition aid on a border deal. They conditioned it on Putin’s progress. He wouldn’t have made enough if they passed exactly what they passed when it first arrived from the Senate.
