Totally. I couldn’t make political statements at my office, and expect
To remain employed there very long. In that vein, no complaints with google firing 28 who recently disrupted the company’s operations with a sit in.
College is not the same thing. It should be the weigh station between childhood and adulthood. Part of that should be teaching kids to handle POVs they dislike, to debate civilly, to be able to respect those with whom they disagree, to respect people who choose to keep their views to themselves, to understand that everyone who paid to attend gets to experience school as they wish, not as passionate protestors insist.
It’s the place to stop treating young people like kids at the dinner table. My complaint is…we haven’t done that consistently. Paraphrasing others here - too many want them to have the right to voice their views but not the responsibility to hear and tolerate others. Or the responsibility to remain civil and within the rules while expressing themselves. [Post edited by hoolstoptheheels at 04/24/2024 1:59PM]
