I thought this was a very good back and forth last night focused on
Columbia. The lady was totally on the protestors’ side, nothing but critical of the admin’s decision to clear the courtyard, even though she didn’t deny the existence of antisemitism among the protestors. She seemed to be an absolutist for the protestors, thinking instances of antisemtism should be dealt with as school policies dictate, and disruptions to campus life and those just trying to complete the term should take a back seat.
The male prof, actually at Columbia, was much more concerned about the prevalence of antisemitism and believes school policy is not designed for current circumstances. He was much more sympathetic with the line the admin is trying to toe between safety, campus tranquility, and free expression. But he did admit that he was opposed to the decision to clear the campus square last weekend, thinking negotiation and discussion hadn’t yet run their course.
