…to allow it to become a major issue in the 2024 election rather than the sideshow it is in reality. They need to know in advance that Democrats — having no positive policy to run on — will try to whip up a frenzy on abortion to distract voters, and their corrupt media will be their bullhorn. Thus, Reps’ position should simply be that 1) abortion is a state issue so 2) I will vote against any federal legislation on the matter and 3) I’m going to focus on actual federal issues such as illegal immigration, inflation and bureaucratic corruption. That’s all they need to say, and they’ll be fine.

At the state level, Republicans need to be smart and take half a loaf instead of going for the whole loaf that many might like. Saving lives with abortion bans after 16 weeks or whatever is preferable to pushing for much stricter laws, losing elections and thereby losing not only any restrictions on abortion to preserve life but also losing all the other far more important issues that would result from Democrat election wins.
