“The end of racism”. That sounds like one of those aspirational goals
For which we’ll always be striving. Which is fine - pretty much all American ideals are things to strive towards in the never ending quest for a more perfect union. So, I doubt diversity will ever be a fully achieved goal. I think the real questions are about how this thing called “DEI” works. How does one ensure “equity” of outcomes rather than “equality” of opportunity, without employing something like racial (or other) preferences?
I think the problem is current “DEI” approaches insist on hyperfocus on identity (whether racial, gender, or whatever) in ways that we’d have called horribly racist just 20 yrs ago. We will not achieve the goal of being a truly diverse democracy that way. In fact, I think we’ll achieve the opposite if we stay on our current “anti-racism” (and LGBTQ, and sexism, etc) tracks.
