Seems so, but the penalties are great, and people tend to get caught.
There’s not much reason to think it happens except that people dream up baseless conspiracy theories. There have been exhaustive studies in mail-only voting states, and they all create online tools to confirm your vote’s been received, and the studies over multiple years and 10s of millions of ballots show no problems. The one confirmed effect is better voter participation.
Inaccuracies and fraud due to mailed ballots is a rwnj myth. And a great confirmation of the cult the repub party’s become. It used to lead the charge for mail in voting, until it did an immediate about face when Trump started attacking it baselessly, and the cult had to bend at the knee.
It’s really not about personal preference for me - I’m an in-person-on-election-day voter. But the problems with mail in voting are mostly just one way rwnjs attack election integrity baselessly, and we can see that it has an effect on people.
