My primary takeaway from Iowa

Participation in these events is way too low.

According to the independent voter project, there are over 2 million registered voters in Iowa (and about 720,000 registered Republicans). Donald Trump captured over half of the 109,000 votes cast. That's 15% or registered Republicans, 5% of registered voters in the state. How much time, energy, money went into this event? For 109,000 or so Iowans. And this will inform the narrative for now. Seems crazy. Hell, even Trump put the effort in this year (after losing to Lyin' Ted last time around, I believe).

And many of these guys don't even go on to win the nomination when all is said and done (I believe Lyin' Ted won once, Rick Santorum perhaps? Huckabee?). Such a waste.

Clearly Iowa is a strange state, with the caucus format. All that said, the action is in the pre-general events at this point. We will have the ballot very few Americans want to see in November, but people aren't getting involved in the process that will determine who's name shows up. This + gerrymandering explains a lot of our issues today IMHO.
