He said “ us overall inflation ticked down a bit from last month”


Which is a correct statement based on the annual overall number. Again, I think the monthly number is more important, but the annual number is considered “the inflation number”. And typically when referencing the monthly number people do so explicitly and also express the annualized equivalent. I’d accept both “inflation ticked down” AND “monthly inflation ticked up”. What I won’t accept is bullshit like JM posted trying to spin the tick up from 0 to 0.1% as some sort of bad news or a reversal in the positive trend on inflation.
