The reported “overall inflation number”

is usually the annual number. And that DID tick down. Now I happen to think the monthly inflation number is more important, but when people talk about overall reported inflation, it’s the 3.1% annual number which is down slightly from last months overall reported inflation of 3.2%.

One can be correct saying inflation ticked down this month by quoting the annualized number, but one could also be correct saying the monthly inflation number ticked up. But if one chose to do the latter, in an attempt to spin this as a bad news report without the added context that the tick up was from 0% (0% annualized) to 0.1% (1.2% annualized) that would be misleading and disingenuous… or what I like to refer to as “a JMhoo post”
