Championship along with Colorado (that was supposed to be us until we lost 4 straight or something), how do we think they’d really have done head to head in a playoff? Back then it was occasionally, a team would dominate a relatively weak schedule and then maybe win the popularity contest with voters.

Although Miami definitely came from the lowest ranks to legit national power, by taking every chance at national tv they could find, getting exposure, building stature on the recruiting trail, and ultimately dominating their backyard in bringing in talent, as RQ says. So that was a legit rise to power - most other examples like Ga Tech for a year were anomalies. Same might’ve been true of us that year if Shawn Moore stayed healthy and we pulled out that back and forth disaster against Ga Tech in Cville.
