Isn’t that kinda what every law is? We don’t trust you to make the
right derision, or we have experienced people making the “wrong” decision - so we impost rules and restrictions?
Rules around education, child abuse, drugs and alcohol, guns, cars, medical licenses, vaccination requirements, building codes, financial disclosure, etc . . . that’s what laws are, restrictions on individual freedom that society has deemed important for the supposed benefit of all. Our relinquishing some individual liberty to be governed as a society is precisely the social contract that underpins the entire concept of a liberal democracy.
The racist stuff aside, having our elected officials debate and determine the rules by which society will be governed - including what we can do with our bodies - is what we tacitly agree to as citizens and participants in this representative democracy.
