Interesting comparison for you -- the 301 Trump tariffs have resulted in
around 60-80 billion of collections PER YEAR (based on what I have seen from numerous sources -- it is still somewhat opaque on exact amount, which is a different concern) -- 100% of which is passed through to US companies and consumers. Compare that to the IRS modernization spend -- which was actually adjusted to 60 billion over 10 years -- so 6 billion per year.
You seem fine with a massive new tariff system that goes straight into government coffers and paid for by US consumers and one (of many contributors) to inflation, but greatly bothered by a spend many times less per year to try modernize tax collection and catch more actual cheaters.
