Politically that is. But then so is too much restraint. Israel needs to hit back hard. But they are being held to a national defense standard in the wake of an existential threat that no other country on earth would even consider meeting.

But too much cynicism by half, at least. Israel and its govt is as far from Russia and Putin as it gets. Criticize Putin, fall out a 20th floor window. Criticizing govt in Israel is a national pastime and only Israeli govts keep falling out of windows (figuratively). So, the Israeli body politic not only doesn’t desire ethnic cleansing of any sort in Gaza, it would not tolerate it.

There are factions in Israel favoring almost anything, but the body politic does not favor atrocities. They don’t tolerate them. You may say Pals are more tolerant of them against Israelis because of Israeli policies, but of course that’s also just an oversimplification. The geopolitics landing Palestinians in their current circumstances are far from being entirely Israel’s doing. All players in the region have been using them as pawns, including Hamas.
